SELF EFFICACY IN STROKE PATIENTS DETERMINED BY FAMILY SUPPORT

Stroke is caused by interruption of the blood supply to the brain that is indicated by loss of function from a particular part of the body causing disability. This condition influences psychic state that may lead to depression with the symptom hopelessness, embarrassment with the condition that may result in lack of self-efficacy. There are several factors that can influence self-efficacy, one of them is family support. The support is the most important factor for stroke patients. Stoke survivors with strong family support can increase motivation to recover soon. The purpose of this research was to find out the relationship between family support and sef-efficacy towards stroke patients at Gunung Maria Hospital. Research designed employed in this study was cross sectional study. Sampling technique used non probability sampling with consecutive approach sampling resulted in 40 respondents. The data were collected through a questionnaire using likert scale. The result of the study was obtained through kolmogorov-smirnov yielded at p = 0,000, with the level of significance ɑ = 0,05 (p < ɑ) therefore Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded from the result of this research that there was a relationship between family support and self-efficacy towards stroke patients at Gunung Maria Hospital. The implication of this research for the nurse is that there is a need for cooperation with family in lifting up patients’ self efficacy, because family support is very helpful for patients in gaining confidence to recover.Downloads
